Synopsis:
In this course, learners will develop their critical reading skills by the close reading of a variety of texts, including novels for Young Adults, short stories, e-mail correspondences, newspaper and magazine articles, and letters. Learners are also expected to write summaries and paraphrases displaying their understanding of the text’s gist.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate ability to read, comprehend and respond with insight to a variety of texts from short stories, novels and magazine/newspaper articles, to types of correspondences commonly circulated at work, or amongst friend’s acquaintances.
- Use textual and contextual clues to interpret texts and draw inferences.
- Demonstrate ability to summarize and paraphrase material from a longer text.
- Demonstrate ability to source for and use information published on the Internet and in conventional print sources, and understand how to acknowledge the usage of such information, using the APA Style format.
